![]() Happy 3rd of July everyone! If you’re in the states this is the meaningless day before the 4th of July. I’ve luckily got today off from work and will be snuggled up most of the time with a book and a cold drink. As many of you know, (I’ve been telling anyone who will listen) Camp NaNoWriMo began on Wednesday and I’ll be working on the second draft of Stealth. I’ve roped in a friend to help me with a “pre-beta” read and he and I are reading, editing and working toward a better draft. So far I’ve accomplished two chapters in two days, but I have a long way to go. You can keep tabs on my progress on my camp stats page, and keep me motivated with well wishes and a few well placed pokes. Enjoy your 4th of July Americans and your weekend everyone else! Happy Reading! ~Eliza ![]() Fiction Friday 14: Muse: 642 Things Prompt: Write about a time you broke… the law. The wind blew through his hair, whipping it into his face and tearing a scream from his lungs. “WOO!! Yeah!” The red corvette sped down the highway, the stolen wheels zipping through traffic as nimble as a ballerina. Derek turned the volume up on the center console, heavy metal ripping from the speakers and filling the air around the car. He expertly wove between the speeding cars, laughing at their angry faces and waving back in sarcasm. In one breath taking swirve he maneuvered from the left lane, three lanes over to exit the freeway. When he pulled to a stop at the light he clicked a few buttons on the GPS. “Canada eh’? Why not?” He started the route guidance and leaned back into the seat with a sigh. From the corner of his eye he could see a young woman in a mini-cooper waving at him, he lowered his shades and winked at her. She giggled as the light turned and he peeled off down the street towards the coast. He reached over to the passenger seat and picked up the owner’s cell phone with a laugh, chucked it over his shoulder and into the back seat before sipping from a Starbucks cup and putting his foot down on the accelerator. ![]() It’s a glorious day today- the sun is shining, the air is warm, and I’ve got a big cup of hot coffee next to me! I hope your day has started out at wonderfully as mine! This week has been a long one, but I’ve made some great progress. I began the hand edits for Stealth and calculated out that I’ll need to edit 8.5 pages every day for 30 days in order to complete the 250 pages and be ready for camp in July. Camp! Yup, it’s that time again, Camp NaNoWriMo is right around the corner, July first marks day one of Stealth’s journey into version two! I’m super excited this session, I’ve already got a great cabin lined up, A.V. Sanders, Andi Van, and Alexandra Lucas just to name a few. It should be an epic session with lots of laughs and progress for all. Happy Reading! ~Eliza ![]() Fiction Friday 12: Muse: 642 Things Prompt: Write instructions on how to do something you haven’t learned since you were very young. *camera noises* “Is it working?” “Yeah, go ahead.” “Okay.” A woman fidgets in front of the camera. “So um, hi. My name is Meradith. Ah, you don’t know me, but I’m told you come from me. I mean my eggs. I mean, gah, I’m really horrible at this.” “It’s okay, take your time Meradith.” “Let me start again. Hi, I’m Meradith. You’re my clone, and though I’m not around to teach you and watch you grow, there may be a way for me to help you a little. Go with me on this.” “Here.” A male hand extends into the frame and hands Meradith something. “Thanks Joel. This is a book.” She holds it up to show the camera. “I want to teach you how to read. I know you don’t need to in 2899, but I think some things just run in your… um, our, blood. Ready?” Be my muse and leave a prompt idea, feedback, or even just a word in the comments below or via twitter, fb, or email and I will use your suggestions for future Fiction Friday content. Hello May! Today is a triple whammy of special; May Day, the first day of working on Keeper’s again, AND it’s of course a Friday. Last week was a busy one with family, my graduation ceremony, and finishing Camp NaNo early, but this weekend should be lots of fun. Hubs and I have a new game to play together, gardening to do, and I have lots of editing to run through. I hope you all enjoy your May Day Friday and get out and enjoy the sunshine and the dew. Happy Reading! ~Eliza ![]() Fiction Friday 07: Muse: None Prompt: Close your eyes and think deeply of an emotion you’ve felt in the past three days, nothing fleeting, something strong and overwhelming. Loneliness is like a wide open wound, bleeding and festering. It grows and grows and gets worse as time goes by, but just as any other chronic pain, it can be ignored. That is, until something returns your focus to it. The cold side of your partner’s bed, tripping over the lost shoe of a loved one, never to be reclaimed. Or even someone asking questions that bring that lost one back to the forefront of your thoughts. Loneliness is a plague, for even after it has been cured, there remain scars for years to come, always hidden from view, always waiting for someone to slice it open and begin the bleeding again. Only time can cure loneliness, time and trust. Trust that you can survive by yourself, with only yourself to rely on, and trust that the person who cut you won’t willingly do it again. “I’m giving you Erik’s spreads. I want them re-done, polished and presented to me in a weeks time. Give them the same care and consideration that you gave the Brandt photos and you will be fine.” Eyvett smiled and stood causing Annabelle to stand as well. Who brought the fire works!? The s'mores!? How about the ghost stories!? It’s camping season and it’s time for your week two updates on my journey through Camp NaNoWriMo! Welcome the the most exciting blog post I have written to date, while also being consequently the most anti-climactic. Today is Monday, the second Monday of April’s session in fact and also day 20 of camp. Day 20 makes it officially WIN DAY! Yesterday, was the last day of the session where a camper was able to change their word count goal before the clock ticked over to today, win day. Once wind day begins, validation of your word count is possible and campers are able to begin winning. So… without further ado…. *drum roll please* *I won!* Yup, you heard me right! I finished writing Stealth a full 10 days before the camp session ended! This marks my SECOND fully written novel and I’m honestly still in shock. Even as I type this I can’t help but smile at the amount of progress I’ve made in the last two years with my writing. Slowly my pattern is becoming a routine and I couldn’t possibly be happier about it. My goal is to continue writing every day even if just for an hour, blog posts, book reviews, editing my novels, etc. Anything as long as I get the fingers moving and the words flowing.
![]() Pull out the marshmallows and the chocolate! Pass me the graham crackers, it's Fiction Friday and I'm ready for a story! Camp has reached the halfway point in the month and team Eliza has made EPIC progress. As of this morning we are a mere SIX thousand from our goal of 50k. That's nearly double where we should be! At this rate we will be finished sometime on Sunday and the first draft of Stealth will be completed. This just boggles my mind. Last night I finished up the epilogue and all that remains are a few transitions and a scene or two that I've put off writing. I'm expecting a full update post on Monday so stay tuned for juicy stats, pictographs, and as much confetti as I can find. For now, enjoy this scene from Stealth that I wrote this week with Annabelle attempting to was a sleepy Miranda with a tantalizing cup of coffee... and maybe some sisterly threats. Annabelle climbed into Miranda’s bed, Tin having long since vacated it in favor of the gym. She waved a cup of hot coffee under her sister’s nose and wafted the steam in her face. “Mir…” she purred, “Wake up Mir.” ![]() If you follow me on Facebook, you may know I took last Friday off of work to stay home and play full time writer. I set a goal for myself of just under 6k, which would put the full manuscript of Stealth at the 60k mark. Well, I didn't quite make my goal of 6K, but I made it to 4.5K and to be honest, I'm happy with that. After nearly four hours of disciplined work at the keyboard a headache made it hard to see and it was nap time. I came back to my work later, but a sleepy hubs and fluffy made offers for cuddles that I had a difficult time refusing. I’m finding my groove in writing again, but this session of camp is a bit more rough than previous sessions I've attended. I realistically had not written anything for Stealth or Keeper's from July to February (wedding, graduation, school, etc) and getting back into it was hard.
As I begin to fall from the writers high that followed Camp NaNoWriMo I have realized how neglected some of my life's loves have been. Let's talk about you. Over the past month I have been promising character bios for Annabelle and Lucian from 'Stealth' and I have continuously forgotten them. Well not any more. The bios are up! Check out the spiffy new 'Stealth' page dedicated to everything A&L. Finally, lets talk about me.
If you had asked me last May if I thought I would be writing two novels in the next year I would have laughed in your face and went back to reading my book. Here's a little secret, I couldn't have done it without you (this section is really about you too). Your constant support via twitter, facebook, or even checking this blog every so often. So thank you for all you do and know that you make a different in this dreamer's life. Today, minutes before dinner (actually I was late to the table), I validated my word count via Camp NaNo magic and saw that I was clocked in at 50,172 words! Woot! We won!
Here's the bad news...Stealth isn't finished. While I reached 50k I am unhappy with where the book ended and I never intended to make it more than a standalone novel, therefore I will be returning to Stealth in June and hopefully get that finished and up and on the editor's block shortly after. So what's happening between now and then? First, I will be creating a page for Stealth up there next to Keeper's this weekend. Then, in celebration of completing the challenge I will post a few character bios and a synopsis for the book. My goal is to then to polish up a segment of the book as a preview to share with you. May will be dedicated to (catching up on my pending book reviews) and editing a v2.0 of Keeper's Conundrum. Thank you to everyone for the continued support this past 30 day, I couldn't have done it without you all. This is the second NaNo event I have participated and after missing the mark last November I am ECSTATIC to have completed this month's challenge.
Today is the day! *Bends down and touches toes* The one I've been eagerly awaiting for two weeks. *stretches calves* Eight hours of pure NaNoWriMo writing passion fueled by my love of my characters and my insanity to attempt writing a novel the month of finals. *gulps water* But hey, who's watching. I'm not writing for you, I'm writing for me. I'm writing because without it... I'd be too full and possibly explode from all the adventures not taken. *runs in place* So join me for the NaNoThon and help support one of the key aspects of me achieving my dream of being a writer.
