If you follow me on Facebook, you may know I took last Friday off of work to stay home and play full time writer. I set a goal for myself of just under 6k, which would put the full manuscript of Stealth at the 60k mark. Well, I didn't quite make my goal of 6K, but I made it to 4.5K and to be honest, I'm happy with that. After nearly four hours of disciplined work at the keyboard a headache made it hard to see and it was nap time. I came back to my work later, but a sleepy hubs and fluffy made offers for cuddles that I had a difficult time refusing.
I’m finding my groove in writing again, but this session of camp is a bit more rough than previous sessions I've attended. I realistically had not written anything for Stealth or Keeper's from July to February (wedding, graduation, school, etc) and getting back into it was hard.
It's November and you know what that means, NaNoWriMo begins! This month's news is very focused around this yearly event, so make sure to check out all of the resources below and of course the November releases and Book-to-film for November as well.
What a crazy week! I've spent countless hours on my porch soaking up the sun with Onnie, Gabriel, and my many other imaginary friends in this recent heatwave. We've gone swimming, accomplished some gardening and even managed to read a couple of books in our down time. It's the end of week two (only 18 days left) in our July Camp NaNoWriMo adventure and we've made some startling progress!
"Gabriel smiled and slipped one hand into his pocket and used his other to lift her chin. “You’ll call me if you need anything.” Removing his hand from his pocket he pulled out a small slip of paper and held it between his fingers."
Go get out your bow and quiver. Pull back. Aim... and GO! See you next week with more words done and even more progress made!
Every little bit counts, so leave me a message in the comments or via any other social media outlet (found at the top of this site) with your friendly cheerleader messages or words of wisdom, those are much appreciated.
Someone get the tent down from the attic, air out the sleeping bags and for the love of everything, don't forget the marshmallows! It's campin' time!
Yup, that's write (see what I did there), Camp NaNoWriMo is back in session! This month I have set another 50k word goal for myself and I will be focusing on content edits and filling plot holes in Keeper's Conundrum as well as simply expanding the story.
Thanks for sticking with me and I look forward to blinding you with progress next week!
If you have a suggestion on how I can generate a more accurate word count, leave me a message in the comments or via any other social media outlet (found at the top of this site).
If you don't have a suggestion but want to leave me a friendly cheerleader message those are also much appreciated.
What does the Program Include?
The program comes with a wealth of benefits and resources. There are workbooks (for download and purchase) aimed at varying grade levels filled with inspiration starters, writing prompts and story building tools. Just like with the vanilla NaNo program there are also pep-talks from other authors providing advice, words of wisdom and uplifting support. And of course I can't forget their friendly and supportive community! The writers who participate in NaNoWriMo are some of the most supportive people I have ever come in contact with. Their forums, twitter and live-streams have kept me company many late nights and given me that last push I needed to cross the hurdles before me.
Here's How to Sign-up
Anyone can sign-up for NaNoWriMo, and if you're a youngster or an educator who wants to incorporate this event into your classroom, they have you covered. There is a step-by-step guide on registering a young writer and how to set a customizable word count goal for maximum chances of achievement.
Here's How to Donate
The month the YWP is raising funds to upgrade their website. Their goal is 50k and so far they have raised 32k. They are only running this drive until June 23rd so help support the writers of tomorrow and pledge whatever you can.
If you are unable to donate, help spread the word about the donation drive instead via social media and using #ToAFutureWriter.
If you were able to donate (or not) post your social media information below and lets get the conversation started!
Today, minutes before dinner (actually I was late to the table), I validated my word count via Camp NaNo magic and saw that I was clocked in at 50,172 words! Woot! We won!
Here's the bad news...Stealth isn't finished. While I reached 50k I am unhappy with where the book ended and I never intended to make it more than a standalone novel, therefore I will be returning to Stealth in June and hopefully get that finished and up and on the editor's block shortly after.
So what's happening between now and then?
First, I will be creating a page for Stealth up there next to Keeper's this weekend. Then, in celebration of completing the challenge I will post a few character bios and a synopsis for the book. My goal is to then to polish up a segment of the book as a preview to share with you.
May will be dedicated to (catching up on my pending book reviews) and editing a v2.0 of Keeper's Conundrum.
Thank you to everyone for the continued support this past 30 day, I couldn't have done it without you all.
This is the second NaNo event I have participated and after missing the mark last November I am ECSTATIC to have completed this month's challenge.
Today is the day! *Bends down and touches toes* The one I've been eagerly awaiting for two weeks. *stretches calves* Eight hours of pure NaNoWriMo writing passion fueled by my love of my characters and my insanity to attempt writing a novel the month of finals. *gulps water* But hey, who's watching. I'm not writing for you, I'm writing for me. I'm writing because without it... I'd be too full and possibly explode from all the adventures not taken. *runs in place* So join me for the NaNoThon and help support one of the key aspects of me achieving my dream of being a writer.

Camp NaNoWriMo has begun and for the second time I will be participating in the events! This time I will be working on an idea I have had stewing in my head for the last few months.
Annabelle is an outgoing assistant to a leader in the media industry. What she thinks will be an amazing career starter will push her patience and sanity to the limits. That is until she meets Lucian, a god in human flesh. When a chance meeting one day causes the two to meet Annabelle's life is changed forever by the whirl-wind romance that threatens to break all of her well constructed walls. But Annabelle has a dark past she's afraid to share with Lucian and the past has a habit of trying to resurface in the future. When it does she must make the decision to share her past with Lucian and let him in or neither of them may not survive.
This doesn't mean I will give up on Onnie and her magical adventure, but for a few weeks she will be back on the shelf napping with the rest of my imaginary friends, it's Annabelle's turn to play!
